New Delhi:
Chennai-based two wheeler manufacturer TVS Motor Company today (Oct 3, 2006) reported a 42 per cent increase in motorcycles sales at 1,06,972 units in September this year as compared to 75,310 units in the year-ago period.
The company said this was its highest-ever sales performance in a single month and motorcycles for the first time crossed the 1 lakh mark on the back of strong demand.
The total two wheeler sales rose 34 per cent to 1,62,200 units in September 2006 as against 121,108 units sold in the same period last year.
Exports stood at 10,339 units during the month, up 38 per cent compared to September 2005.
TVS said the strong motorcycle growth was due to the continued demand for its economy segment and premium segment brands TVS StaR City and TVS Apache respectively.
TVS Scooty sales increased by 10 per cent at 24,890 units in September 2006 as against 22,697 units in the same month in 2005. The company said it would launch a 2-stroke variant of the Scooty brand soon.
