Mumbai: The stock markets beat a hasty retreat today (July 6,2006) after the overnight 256-point jump and fell by 188 points to 10,732.13 in the initial ten minutes of trading.

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) opened sharply down at 10,836.49 and later dipped to 10,732.13 due to selling presssure from investors.

However, it recovered partly to 10,797.24 at 10 am.

The National Stock Exchange's (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty also dropped by 28.20 points to 3,168.90 from yesterday's close of 3,197.10.
