The benchmark Sensex plunged over 241 points in early trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange today on selling by funds in blue-chip stocks.
The Sensex, which remained volatile in previous trading, dropped by 241.25 points at 9909.76 in first five minutes of trading. Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty tumbled by 72.85 points at 2909.60.
The major puller to the indices were heavy-weights Reliance Industries, Infosys Technologies, ONGC, Grasim Industries, Bajaj Auto, BSES and ACC.
The selling pressure spilled over a wide front and drove down all the 30-share on the Sensex and 50-share on Nifty.
