Sensex rebounds over 195 points in early trade

Mumbai: After a weak start, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark index (Sensex) today (June 9, 2006) rebound by over 195 points in early trading on select buying by funds.

The 30-share sensitive index, which opened about 25 points down, recovered sharply to trade 195.58 points higher at 9,491.39 in the first five minutes of trading.

Similarly, the Nifty index on the wide-based National Stock Exchange was up by 54.00 points at 2,778.35 after opening lower at 2,721.20 points.

Stock brokers said that apart from funds buying, short-covering by players also supported the market to some extent.

The major gainers were Reliance Industries, Larsen and Toubro, Infosys Technologies, ACC, Bajaj Auto, Maruti, Tata Motors, Wipro, Dr Reddy Lab., Satyam Computer and ITC Ltd.

A few counters in the mid-cap section also recovered some ground.
