Mumbai:
The rupee today (June 9, 2006) made a smart recovery against the US dollar at the opening and was quoted at Rs 45.93/94 per dollar at the later stage due to fresh dollar
sales.
At the interbank Foreign Exchange market (FOREX), the Indian currency opened with fresh gains at Rs 45.96/97 and made further progress and was quoted at Rs 45.93/94 per dollar showing a smart recovery over the previous close of Rs 45.97/98.
The fresh rise in rupee was due to suspected dollar sales by state-owned banks on behalf of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), dealers said.
