Mumbai: After a strong start, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex today (May 23,2006) fell sharply by 296 points to 10,185.48 points within five minutes of trading.

The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) opened strong at 10,590.67 points but later tumbled to 10,185.48, a loss of296.29 points from yesterday's close of 10,481.77 points. PTI
