The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) sensitive index (sensex) today (May 11, 2006) turned weak after a long record-breaking stride and was down by 34.74 points at 12,577.64 on fresh selling.
The BSE 30-share index started better at 12,631.54 as against yesterday's close of 12,612.38 and after shooting up to a new intra-trade high of 12,671.11, fell back sharply to low of 12,572.53 and was quoted at 12,577.64 at 10.05 am, showing a fresh loss of 34.74 points over yesterday.
Mukesh Ambai-owned Reliance Petroleum Ltd (RPL) today opened 70 per cent higher at Rs 101.95 as against the IPO rate of Rs 60 per shares, but soon fell sharply to Rs 84.50.
The weak spots were RIL, Infosys Tech, Satyam, ICICI Bank, Tata Motors, Tata Power, Wipro, TCS and L&T during early trade.
