Sensex crosses 12,600 points during early trade

Mumbai: The benchmark Sensex crossed 12,600 points mark for the first time in early trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange today (May 10, 2006) on aggressive buying by foreign funds in heavy-weighted scrips.

The BSE index which had gained 51 points yesterday, gathered another 97.85 points to hit new intra-day high of 12,611.71 points.

Similarly, the Nifty index on the wide-based National Stock Exchange shot up by 23.75 points to trade at new high of 3744.30 points.

The major gainers were Reliance Industries, Bajaj Auto, Larsen and Toubro, State Bank of India, Dr Reddy Lab, Tata Consultancy, BHEL, ICICI Bank, grasim Industries, ACC and Tata Steel.
