The benchmark Sensex spurted to new peak by rising over 175 points on fund buying in first five minutes of trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange today (May 2, 2006).
The Sensex which had closed nearly 191 points higher on friday opened significantly higher at 12,103.78 points, surged to hit new high of 12,217.77 points, a hefty rise
of 175.21 points.
Similarly, the Nifty index on the wide-based National Stock Exchange shot up by 42.65 points to trade at new high of 3600.25.
Heavyweights from sectors like Cement, Pharmaceuticals, Auto and Engineering and pulled the indices up.
The hot scrips in news were Dr Reddy, Ranbaxy, Reliance Communication and Indiabulls Financial Services further supported the market's trading sentiments.
Other gainers were Bajaj Auto, Grasim Industries, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, Maruti Udyog, Tata Steel, ONGC, Infosys Technologies and Satyam Computers.
