Mumbai: State Bank of India employees today (Apr 10, 2006) resumed work after a week-long strike, following negotiations over the pension package.

"They will work extra hours to clear the backlog," All India SBI Staff Federation Secretary Profullo Kumar Patnaik told sources.

"Some of workers had started work from last night itself and the whole contingent has resumed work today," Patnaik said.

"They would work till the last pending transaction gets completed," Patnaik said.

"Unions of the bank would extend all necessary support to the management to get the state government transactions back to the SBI fold as soon as possible," he added

A few state governments had shifted their transactions temporarily from State Bank of India to other public sector banks in view of the indefinite strike by SBI employees.

About 2.10 lakh employees in 9,000 branches of the bank across the country had been on an indefinite strike since April 3 in support of their demand seeking higher pension.

SBI workers called off their stir yesterday after an agreement with the Centre to increase pension benefits at a marathon meeting called by the Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram in Delhi.
