Rupee weakens further against dollar in early trade Monday, April 10 2006 12:51 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
The rupee turned weak after Friday's recovery against the US currency and was quoted moderately down during morning trade following firm dollar overseas coupled with some dollar buying amid expectations of fresh inflows.
In active trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) Market here, the Indian unit opened weak at Rs 44.7150/7300 a dollar from last weekend's close of Rs 44.6850/6950 per dollar and later was quoted at Rs 44.70/71 per dollar in late morning deals as the employees of State Bank of India called off the week-long strike yesterday (Apr 10, 2006).
Attributing rupee's weakness to dollar's firmness in the overseas markets, forex dealers said the Indian unit might offset any further fall in its value during the day on likelydollar inflows following normal working of the largest public sector bank.
The dollar was sharply higher on Friday against major world currencies in New York trading.
