Inflation fell to 3.96 per cent for the week ended March 25, from 4.06 per cent in the previous week mainly due to cheaper manufactured items.
The wholesale price rise slowed down to 3.96 per cent despite increase in prices of essential items like vegetables, wheat and fish, while fuel prices remained unchanged, according to data released by the government today (Apr 07, 2006).
Inflation rate for the same period a year ago was higher at 5.10 per cent.
The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) declined by 0.2 per cent to 197 points and it was 189.5 points a year ago.
Government revised the inflation figure downward to 4.04 per cent for the week ended January 28 from provisional 4.30 per cent, while WPI stood corrected at 195.9 points as against the earlier estimate of 196.4 points.
