Sensex at new peak of 11,089 points at mid-session

Mumbai: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex touched a new high of 11,089 points at mid-session today (Mar 27, 2006) on aggressive buying by funds in infrastructure segment.

The Sensex touched an all-time high of 11,089.76 points, gaining 139.46 points at 1315 hrs as most of the shares in segments like cement, steel and power spurted on heavy purchases by foreign as well as domestic funds.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty set a record at highest level of 3,325.60 points after gaining 45.80 points.

Major gainers were ACC, Grasim, Gujarat Ambuja Cement, Tata Steel, SAIL, Hindalco, ITC Ltd., Hind Lever, Cipla, Dr Reddy's Lab., BHEL and Larsen and Toubro.
