Sensex scales fresh high crosses 10, 896 points

Mumbai: The benchmark Sensex climbed to a new high and crossed 10,896 points on the Bombay Stock Exchange at noon today (Mar 14 2006) on emergence of buying in index-related banking and auto shares.

The Sensex was quoted at 10,896.39 points, recording a gain of 92.68 points at 1415 hrs and wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty to 3,223.45 points, higher by 20.80 points on increased buying by foreign as well as domestic funds.

The major support was lent by index-linked shares of State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Bank of India, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Auto, Maruti Udyog, Tata Motors and Mahindra and Mahindra.

The Reliance tag stocks and some leading information technology majors like Infosys also quoted higher.
