Sensex at new peak of 10,726.70 remaining bullish

Mumbai: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark index today(Mar 6,2006) touched a new intra-day high of 10,726 points backed by aggressive buying by funds, as the market was in an upbeat mood following the listing of Anil Ambani's Reliance Communication Ventures Ltd at a notably high level.

The 30-share Sensex rose by 131.57 points at 10,727.10 at 1400 hrs and the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty by 41.55 points at 3,188.75, a level never seen before.

The RCoVL scrip, which listed on the bourses at Rs 298, spurted to a high of Rs 309 and recorded 1,033 block deals till noon as about 4.60 crore shares exchanged hands, which cheered the trading sentiment.

The major support to the indices came in from shares like Reliance Industries, Larsen and Toubro, Maruti, Bajaj Auto, ONGC, Tata Motor, Tata Power, Tata Steel, HDFC Ltd., ICICI Bank, Cipla and Hindustan Lever.
