Sensex hits new peak at 10,154.65 points today
Monday, February 13 2006 11:22 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mumbai: The Bombay Stock Exchange's benchmark 30-share Index (Sensex) today (Feb 13,2006) scaled yet another new peak at 10,154.65 during morning trading before profit booking pared early gains in an otherwise restricted activity amid sustained Foreign Institutional Investors (FII) inflows.

The Sensex opened on a promising note at 10,117.50 from Friday's close of 10,110.97 and later firmed up to an all-time intra-trade high of 10,154.65 before being quoted at 10,109.35 at 1030 hrs, a minor loss against last close.

Market players as well as domestic mutual funds were believed to be booking profits at higher levels while FII remained consistent buyers.

As per figures released by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), FIIs have been sustained buyers for the last couple of weeks and reported hefty net investments of about Rs 3,200 crore in the five days of the month.

Well supported by robust corporate earnings and the country's strong economic fundamentals, the market is driven by a pre-budget bull run as FIIs pumped in heavy funds into the Indian equity, brokers said.

Meanwhile, the Nikkei was quoted up by about 286 points, the Hang Seng by 120 points, the Kospi by 19 points and the Taiwan by 29 points in early trading this morning.
