Sensex plunges below 10,000 points as trade begins Wednesday, February 8 2006 10:31 Hrs (IST) - World Time -  Mumbai:
The benchmark index plunged by 123.73 points on the Bombay Stock Exchange in early trading today (Feb 8 2006) on heavy selling by funds and retailer investors.
The sensex, which had crossed psychological 10,000 mark, tumbled by 123.73 points at 9958.55 in first 5 minutes of trading.
The selling was witnessed in all the segments and placed the second-largest wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty lower by 35.20 points at 2984.90.
The major draggers were HDFC, Infosys Technologies, ICICI Bank, Larsen and Toubro, HDFC Bank, Dr Reddy, Tata consultancy, Grasim Industries, Tata Steel, Hero Honda, BHEL, Wipro and Tata Power.
