Mumbai: The benchmark Sensex reached much closer to the magic 10,000 level, at mid-session on the Bombay Stock Exchange today and quoted at 9993.92 as aggressive market participants bought blue-chip stocks.

The market was volatile since opening as the benchmark index remained on roller-coster ride, moving between 9919.89 and 9993.92 points.

Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty spurted to as high as 3011.05 points, a level never seen before. The major support to the index came in from segments like capital goods, auto and pharma.
