The Bombay Stock Exchange Sensitive Index today (Jan 27,2006) crossed 9,800 points for the first time in the Bombay Stock Exchange history in just five minutes of trading today after foreign and domestic funds made all-round buying heavy-weighted stocks.
The Sensex, which had closed about 135 points higher at 9,685.74 points, opened significantly higher at 9,764.26 and surged to record high of 9804.69, showing a a rise of
118.95 points.
The Nifty on the NSE also climbed up by 29.55 points at 2,969.90 points.
Heavy-weighted Reliance Industries Ltd stocks shot up by Rs 14.90 at Rs 703 on massive buying triggered by reports that the company was planning to invest in Saudi
Arabia in a big way.
Other gainers included were Larsen and Toubro, State Bank of India, Tata Consultancy, Tata Motors, Reliance Energy BHEL and Bajaj Auto.
