BSE: Sensex at new intra-day high of 9469.40 points Tuesday, January 3 2006 12:49 Hrs (IST) - World Time -  Mumbai:
The Bombay Stock Exchange's benchmark Sensitive Index surged to a new intra-day high of 9,467.40 points at noon today (Jan 03, 2006) following increased purchases by funds and retail investors.
The BSE index, which had closed about 7 points down yesterday at 9,390.14, opened higher at 9,401.83 and shot up to 9,469.37 points during the trading, up by 79.23.
Similarly, the Nifty on the National Stock Exchange rose by 22.50 points at 2,858.45, also a new high.
The major gainers were Reliance Industries, Maruti Udyog, Hero Honda, HDFC Ltd, State Bank of India, Tata Motors, Dr Reddy's Lab, Grasim Industries, Bajaj Auto, BHEL, Infosys Technologies and Associated Cement Co.
Buying interest was also extended to several mid-cap stocks.
