New Delhi: M H Kherawala, a senior Indian Revenue Service officer, today (Jan 01, 2006) took over as chairperson of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

Kherawala, who belonged to the 1969 batch, succeeded M S Darda who retired yesterday (Dec 31, 2005).

Prior to her appointment, Kherawala was member (Legislation) in the CBDT, an official release said.

She is heading a panel on simplification of tax laws, it added.
