Government is mulling the option of allowing futures trading on essentials like onion and, potato to remove price volatility witnessed by these widely traded commodities.

In highly volatile trading, the Sensex today (Dec 23, 2005)plunged by 115 points after scaling a new high during early trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on fresh bouts of heavy profit booking by operators and domestic funds coupled with fresh selling by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs).

'No plan to boost rate of interest on small savings'
