Sensex recovers smartly by 50.47 pts in early trade

Mumbai: The Sensex today (Dec 01, 2005) started on a strong note and after a short setback recovered smartly by 50.47 points at the opening session on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) due to good buying at yesterday's low levels.

The BSE 30-share sensitive index started higher at 8813.82 as against yesterday's close of 8788.81 and after moving up to a high of 8863.94, fell back temporarily to 8780.94. Thereafter, the index regained strength and was quoted at 8839.28 at 10.30 a.m., showing a smart gain of 50.47 over the previous close.

Yesterday, the market witnessed highly volatile trade when the index plunged by over 256 points in intra-day trading.

At the opening session RIL, Infosys Tech, HDFC, L&T, TCS, Wipro, Satyam, Bajaj Auto, BHEL, Grasim, ICICI Bank, ONGC, Maruti, ACC, HLL, NTPC, Ranbaxy, SBI, Tata Power and Tata Steel were trading strong.

However, Bharti, Cipla, HDFC Bank and ITC showed moderate losses.
