Canada-based SMART Technologies, global market leader in interactive whiteboards, is seeking to expand its presence in India and may set up an office in this country to drive growth.
The privately held company's President and co-CEO Nancy Knowlton said here it has 'substantial plans' for India it sees as an important market with a lot of potential.
The company, which clocked revenues of just over USD 200 million last year, is currently selling its products in the Indian market through a distributor.
In the last four years, it has sold more than 1,000 whiteboards in India, 80 per cent to corporates and 20 per cent to educational institutions, officials said.
Its customers in India include Infosys Technologies, ING Vysya and Jawaharlal Nehru University.
"We are looking to do more work in sales and support (in India)", she told reporters, adding, the company is looking to have people locally. The company is targeting an Indian market, estimated to be multi-million US dollars.
The company today announced the launch of SMART Board 600 series interactive whiteboard.
"At a time when the Indian education system is exploring new methods of knowledge delivery, SMART's easy-to-use products help educators move to a more participatory style of teaching and learning, integrate technology into their teaching and deliver lesson material in a more dynamic and engaging manner", the company said.
Smart Board 600 series' price ranges from Rs 70,000 to Rs 1,50,000. Educational institutions have a special price. There is also a promotional buy-one-get-one-free offer for them, officials said.
