Sensex touches new peak of 8912 at opening session

Mumbai: Marching towards the 9000 mark, the sensex today (Nov 26, 2005) rallied further and touched a peak of 8912.12 points during the opening session on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on persistent heavy buying activity by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs).

The BSE 30-share sensitive index opened strong at 8858.20 as against yesterday's (Nov 25, 2005) close of 8853.21 and rallied further to a peak of 8912.12 during the intra-session trading. Later the index was quoted at 8910.58 at 11.00 am, showing a smart gain of 57.37 points over the previous close.

FIIs continued their buying spree and made a handsome net purchase of Rs 461.40 crore on November 24 and a total net buying of Rs 1364.50 during the week till November 24.

During the early trading a large number of shares such as RIL, Infosys Tech, Bajaj Auto, Hero Honda, HLL, ITC, L&T, M&M, Maruti, ONGC, Ranbaxy, REL, Satyam, Tata Motors, Tata Power, TCS, BHEL, Bharti, Grasim, Dr Reddy, Cipla, HDFC, HDFC Bank and Wipro showed smart rally on frantic buying.
