3COM launches platform with security features Tuesday, November 15 2005 15:45 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bangalore:
3COM today (Nov 15, 2005) launched Tipping Point X505 that the company said makes businesses more secure and efficient by extending IPS (Intrusion Prevention System) with Firewall, VPN, bandwidth management, web content filtering and additional security features.
At a news conference here, Country Manager, 3COM India, Sanjay Manohar, said TippingPoint X505 is the first integrated security platform built upon IPS technology, combining stateful inspection firewall, IPSec VPN, bandwidth management,
web contend filtering and dynamic routing.
According to him, the new platform meets the growing demand of enterprise customers to have a more complete security solution that provides preemptive, automatic and
dynamic protection not found in today's firewalls.
"The Tipping Point X505 is poised to replace at least three different boxes on my internal network: an IDS, a VLAN-capable switch, and a firewall", Manohar said.
He said as technologies converge, organizations require an integrated security platform, like the Tipping Point X505 that adds intelligence into the network by performing total
packet flow inspection to block malicious traffic, throttle non-essential traffic, and prioritize mission-critical traffic regardless of the type of traffic inspected: voice, data or
video.
Technical Manager, 3COM India, Denny Sam Thekenal, said intrusion prevention systems add intelligence into the network with the ability to inspect traffic through Layer 7, classify it and take action according to policy as well as the capability for automatic, preemptive threat protection through an update service.
