Mumbai:
The Sensex today (Oct 28, 2005) fell sharply by another 86 points at the opening session on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on increased selling pressure.
Nervous operators continued to offload their holdings after persistent selling by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs), which remained net sellers during the month of October, dealers said.
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Benchmark 30-share Index (Sensex) started the day marginally weak at 7795.03 as against yesterday's close of 7798.49, but soon fell sharply to a session low of 7701.65, before being quoted at 7712.06 at 10.30 a.m., showing a steep fall of 86.43 points over the previous close.
With Wednesday's sales of Rs 4.53 bn, FIIs reported net sales of Rs 26.84 bn in October.
To some extent, weak trend in the global markets also had negative impact on the market. Dow Jones Industrial average fell sharply by 115.03 points and the Nasdaq Composite Index dropped by 36.24 points.
During early trading, Infosys Tech, ITC, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Larsen and Turbo (L&T), TCS, Satyam Comp, HDFC, M&M, Ranbaxy, ONGC, ACC, HDFC Bank, Hero Honda, Hindalco, Hindustan Lever Limited (HLL), ICICI Bank, Wipro, PNB and Tata Power declined sharply.
