Bangalore: Microsense, the leading Wi-Fi roaming service provider in the country yesterday (Oct 24, 2005) announced to expand its presence from 500 hotspots in India to 1000 by the end of the year. Enabling this is its participation in the Wireless Verification Program from Intel, the world's largest chipmaker and leading manufacturer of computer, networking and communications products.

This joint campaign to promote Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) Internet access across all Microsense Hot Spots in India will further enhance awareness and educate the laptop community at large on the usability aspects of Intel Centrino mobile technology for notebook PCs that features integrated wireless LAN capability.

"We can't think of a more natural relationship than this one with Intel, the brand synonymous with mobile technology. Microsense, the innovator in Wi-Fi connectivity, has already been working long with Intel, verifying that Microsense Wi-Fi hotspots conform to Intel standards for business class use. Microsense and Intel will work together to drive awareness of Wi-Fi hot spots across the country, areas where notebook users can connect to the Internet and corporate networks wirelessly. Our prime goal is to develop the Wireless eco-system in the country," said Mr. S. Kailasanathan, MD, Microsense Pvt Ltd. "Through this association we will demonstrate to the users the benefit of hi-speed, zero configuration, plug and play internet access at hotspots," he added.

Microsense's 500 hotspots and plans to touch 1000, will be present in Cafe Coffee Day outlets, hotels, restaurants and other convenient locations, the majority of which are Intel and Wi-Fi Alliance Certified. As part of the Wi-Fi Hotspot initiative prime Cafe Coffee Day outlets are now enabled as branded public access hotspots.

Intel's Wireless Verification Program includes engineering and testing of Intel Centrino mobile technology with various WLAN access point devices, software combinations, hot spot locations and wireless service providers. This enables optimising compatibility and verifying interoperability, thereby, further enhancing the end user's wireless experience.
