Friday, October 14 2005 14:04 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mumbai: The Sensex plunged and crashed by 123 points during the mid-session on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) here today (Oct 14, 2005) due to frantic sell off by operators and retail investors.

The BSE 30-share sensitive index, after a better start at 8389.45, rose temporarily to a high of 8396.42 during early trade.

However, as shares suffered major setback, the index crashed and after touching a session low of 8224.72, was quoted at 8253.82 at around 1300 hours, showing a whopping loss of 123.08 over the previous close of 8376.90.

A number of factors such as slowing down of foreign investment, falling global prices and rising inflation generated heavy sell off, brokers said.

The inflation rose to 4.24 per cent during week ended October one from 3.97 per cent a week ago.

During mid-session, the major losers were RIL, Infosys Tech, L&T, ONGC, Ranbaxy, Satyam comp, SBI, ICICI Bank, Hero Honda, HDFC Bank, Grasim, BHEL, Bharti Tele, Maruti and Bajaj Auto.
