Infosys records 35.57 pc growth for second quarter

Bangalore: Software major Infosys today (Oct 11, 2005) reported a net profit of Rs 606 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2005, a year-on-year growth of 35.57 per cent.

The Bangalore-headquartered NASDAQ-listed Infosys reported revenues for the quarter at Rs 2,294 crore, a 31.16 per cent jump.

Announcing the Q2 results, the company said Earnings Per Share increased to Rs 22.26 from Rs 16.71 for the corresponding quarter in the previous year, a 33.21 per cent rise.

It declared an interim dividend of Rs 6.50 per share (130 per cent on par value of Rs 5 per share) as compared to Rs 5 (100 per cent on par value of Rs 5 per share) for the corresponding period of last fiscal.

Infosys said it and its subsidiaries added 34 new clients during the quarter. There was an addition of 8,026 employees by Infosys and its subsidiaries, which have a total employee strength of 46,196 as on September 30, 2005.

"We have seen a robust growth during the quarter due to our effective focus on offering a broad array of services to our clients", Infosys CEO, President and Managing Director Nandan M Nilekani said.

The half-year revenue reached USD one billion, the company said in its statement.

"It took us the whole of fiscal 2004 to reach a revenue of USD one billion. We reached the same level in the first six months of this year", Nilekani said.

Giving its revenue guidance, the company said the income as expected to be in the range of Rs 2,443 crore and Rs 2,452 core for the quarter ending December 31,2005, year-on year growth of 30.25 per cent to 30.73 per cent.

Earnings Per Share is expected to be Rs 23.10, a 24.86 per cent growth.

For the fiscal year ending March 31,2006, the income was expected to be in the range of Rs 9,361 crore and Rs 9,383 crore, a 31.30 to 31.61 per cent jump.
