Microsense Pvt Ltd today (Oct 6, 2005) launched their high-speed wireless internet service at Pune Airport. The newly installed Wi-Fi service allows travellers to have un-tethered, high-speed access to the internet using wireless enabled laptop computers and devices.
Pune is growing continuously in terms of software, automobile, tourism & other associate industries, hence becoming a major travel destination for many international corporates & tourists.
Over 1.5 million travellers that pass through Pune Airport each year will be able to take advantage of the service from within the airport.
By commissioning the Wi-Fi infrastructure, Pune Airport joins a growing list of Wi-Fi enabled airports that includes Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata. For Pune Airport, the addition of Wi-Fi reflects anticipated demand from a steadily growing number of passengers.
Microsense is also in the planning for a phased deployment of similar service at Goa, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad Airports.
"The system is a high-tech welcome mat for travellers who rely on computers and the internet while on the move. As an early adopter of Wi-Fi, we have demonstrated that Pune Airport is one of the leaders in adopting technology and this puts us on an elite list of airports offering the service in India," said Mr. Deepak Shastri, Airport Director, Pune.
The arrival of Wi-Fi at Pune Airport fits into a growing trend that has seen the technology introduced at hotels, restaurants and fast-food eateries.
Airports offer an ideal venue for Wi-Fi, especially because it meets the demand of thousands of business travellers who need to turn downtime waiting for flights into working time to keep up with the office.
