Rupee slips to one month lows against US currency Monday, October 3 2005 11:06 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
The Rupee today (Oct 03, 2005) slipped to over one month lows against the US Currency at Rs.44.11/12 per dollar, driven down by heavy bunch-up dollar demand in slightly nervous early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market.
Opening distinctly weak at Rs.44.05/07 per dollar the rupee later tumbled to Rs.44.11/12 per dollar, sharply lower from last Thursday's close of Rs.44.01/02 per dollar.
There was no trading at the Interbank Forex spot market last Friday, September 30 due to half yearly closing of accounts by banks.
Heaped-up dollar demand over the long weekend exerted considerable pressure on the rupee amidst a resurgent dollar overseas.
Relatively firm global oil prices at over USD 66 a barrel also weighed on rupee value, dealer said.
New York sweet crude oil for delivery in November was quoted at USD 66.29/31 a barrel in early Asian trade today.
Turning to Cross Currency Trade, the Euro was quoted at Rs 52.70/72, Pound Sterling at Rs 77.53/56 and the Japanese Yen (100) at Rs 38.65/68.
