Jayalalithaa urged to implement VAT in Tamil Nadu Thursday, September 22 2005 19:04 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Coimbatore:
The local chapter of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has appealed to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa to introduce VAT in the State.
In a letter to Jayalalithaa, a copy of which was released to the press, Chamber President A Shaktivel said that the trade and industry in the State were facing several problems, due to the implementation of VAT by the neighbouring States.
Non-implementation of VAT in Tamil Nadu could also lead to shifting of trade and industry to the neighbouring states, Shaktivel said.
He said the trade and industry of the region was also experiencing lot of difficulties to carry out their day-to-day affairs due to non-availability of adequate 'C' forms.
Though the assesses were waiting for nearly more than one year, they were unable to get 'C' forms either from commercial taxes department or from the circle offices of the commercial taxes, he said.
If VAT is implemented in the state, all these problems of trade and industry would vanish, Shaktivel said.
