Central Excise issues notice to Reliance refinery Thursday, September 1 2005 13:35 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Ahmedabad:
The Central Excise is understood to have issued a demand notice to the tune of over Rs 10,000 crores to Reliance petroleum refinery in Jamnagar district of Gujarat.
The notice was issued by officials of Central Excise to the refinery for alleged non-payment of surcharge on its petroleum by-products for the past five years.
This came to light when Central Excise Reveue Audit Section (CERA) was under process.
The procedure was also understood to be underway to issue another demand notice of Rs 7,500 crores to the company for similar recoveries.
When contacted on the issue, a company spokesman declined to comment.
