Economic highlights of PM's I-Day address to India

New Delhi: Following are the economic highlights of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Independence Day address:

  • Economy to grow 7 per cent this fiscal.

  • Reviews progress in seven areas including agri, irrigation.

  • Krishi Vigyan Kendras to be set up in every village by 2007.

  • Rail corridor between Delhi-Mumbai & Delhi-Kolkata with investment of Rs 25,000 crore.

  • Nuclear energy to contribute 40,000 MW power.

  • One cr hectares of land to be irrigated under Bharat Nirman.

  • 2.5 cr houses to be given electricity under Bharat Nirman.

  • Each village to have at least one phone connection.

  • Panchayats to be actively involved in Bharat Nirman

  • Thrust on creating more jobs - 'Rozgar Badhao'.

  • Revamping of Khadi and Village Industries Commission.

  • National Rainfed Authority to be set up.

  • Work begins on additional 30,000 kms highways.

  • Six-lane Golden Quadrilateral to be completed.

  • Rail modernisation programme prepared.

  • Construction of world class ports and airports.

  • Urban Renewal Fund with focus on revitalization of Mumbai.

  • Development of non-metro urban centres.

  • Workers should work in cooperation with management.

  • More trade and economic pacts with East Asian countries.

  • Stress on converting outlays into outcomes of progress.
