The sensex today (August 5, 2005) came under pressure after a promising start and was quoted steady at 7798.16 at 10.30 am on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) as investors squared up positions at weekend amid sustained Foreign Institutional Investors (FII) inflows.
The BSE Benchmark 30-share Index opened moderately higher at 7806.11 as against yesterday's (August 4, 2005) close of 7797.08 and later moved irregularly in a range of 7817.61 and 7759.20 in limited activity before being quoted at 7798.16 at 10.30 a.m., a minor upward change.
Operators as well as traders seemed to be squaring up positions at the weekend while
FIIs remained net buyers in the week. FIIs reported net investments of Rs 279.80 crore on Wednesday (August 3, 2005).
Brokers said the volume of business was low during early stages of the trading session.
Tata Motors, Tata Power, State Bank 0f India (SBI), Bharti Tele-Venture, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Cipla, Grasim, Hindalco and Maruti Udyog were quoted remarkably up on fresh buying support from investors.
However, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Bajaj Auto, ICICI Bank, Infosys Tech, L&T, Satyam Computers, Dr Reddy's Lab, Hero Honda, HDFC and Wipro showed marked falls on selling pressure.
