Infosys to set up two software centres in China

Bangalore: India's second biggest software exporter, Infosys today (Aug 04, 2005) announced it would set up two software development centres in China with a total investment of USD 65 million in the next five years.

The new centres, to be located at Shanghai and Hangzhou, would accomodate 6,000 engineers, the Nasdaq-listed, Bangalore headquartered Infosys said. Infosys now has 250 employees in China.

Infosys Technologies (Shanghai) Company Ltd, the China subsidiary of Infosys Technologies Ltd., today signed letters of intent with Shanghai Zhangjiang (Group) company Limited and with the Administrative Commission of Hanghzhou Hi-tech Development Industry Zone-Hangshou, it said in a statement.

The Shanghai centre to be built on 25,000 sq.metres would get an initial investment of USD 10 million in the next two years. Infosys plans to invest USD 15 million on the Hangzhou project on a 100,000 sq.metres land in the next two years.

"Infosys follows a strategy of setting up world-class software development centres in locations where there is a rich local talent as well as the required infrastructure", Infosys Technologies (Shanghai) Company Ltd., CEO and Managing Director James Lin were quoted as saying in the statement.

James said the new centres would undertake projects in software development, IT services and IT-enabled services and would also act as one of the training and research centres in the country.
