Sensex on record-breaking spree, touches new high Tuesday, July 19 2005 15:17 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Continuing the record breaking spree, the Sensex today (July 19, 2005) rallied further to new intra-trade record of 7385.69 during morning trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on the back of fairly good buying support from operators coupled with sustained Foreign Institutional Investors (FII) inflows.
The BSE Benchmark 30-share Index opened steady at 7348.60 as against yesterday's (July 18, 2005) close of 7347.10 and later surged up to a high of 7385.69 before being quoted at 7358.75 at 10.30 a.m., up by 11.65 points.
FII were believed to be engaged in selective purchases, particularly heavy weighted counters. FIIs reported net investments of Rs 176.70 crore on Friday, taking the total inflow during last week to Rs 1446crore, as per figures released by the Security & Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
The market also has become distinctly bullish with operators joining the bandwagon and making fresh commitments in a number of blue chip counters, brokers said.
Key counters like Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), State Bank of India (SBI), Wipro, Tata Steel, Satyam Computers, Reliance Energies Limited (REL), ONGC, HDFC Bank, Dr Reddy's Lab, Bharat Heavy Electronic Limited (BHEL) and a few others were quoted remarkably up on fresh buying support.
However, Hero Honda, Grasim and Bajaj Auto showed modest losses due to profit booking.
