Tata Indicom today (July 8, 2005) announced the launch of 'Ego', a product designed to enable the user to access e-mail, click photographs and shoot video clippings.
The palm-sized product, which is being marketed as one that helps consumers to 'carry the office in the hand', was designed to help users to access e-mail anytime and anywhere, Prabhat Pani, Chief Operating Officer, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh told reporters in Bangalore today.
Ego also enabled a user to click and send photographs and provided the advantage of a mobile broadband even while on the move. Besides making calls, Ego was designed to enable writing text directly on the screen. A user could also shoot video like a camcord, play and send it, he said.
Pani also presented the 'VData cards', a convergence product that encompasses the functions of a wireless network card, a mobile phone and a modem.
The Vdata is a wireless network card that fits into the standard type II PCMCIA card slot in notebook PCs. The card offers a data transfer speed of upto 153 kbps.
The product enables the user to make and receive calls through earphone connected to the Vdata card. The user could make voice calls without any network cable or mobile phone. The calls are charged at standard voice rate plans. Users could also subscribe to value added service like caller ID service for this benefit, he said.
Tata Indicom's offering '4W mobile car' would transform the future of all cars, he said." Our vision is that anything with four wheels will have a voice and data port on the back seat"
The product would be a built-in device that would ensure constant connectivity in a vehicle. "Discussions are still on", he said.
