Sensex opens strong, up by 47 pts at early trading Wednesday, July 6 2005 12:29 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

The Sensex today (July 6, 2005) opened strong and firmed up further at the opening session on Stock Exchange, Mumbai, due to fresh bouts of heavy buying and rose by 47 points.
The BSE benchmark 30-share sensitive index opened firm at 7227.22 as against the previous close of 7220.25 and continued to move up smartly on increased buying and after touching a high of 7272.60, was quoted at 7267.22 at 10.30 a.m., showing a gain of 46.97 points over the previous close.
Yesterday (July 5, 2005) the Sensex had succumbed to heavy fag end selling soon after the news of terrorist attack at Ayodhya and dropped sharply from the historic high of 7308.72.
However, today Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs), who have bought equities worth Rs 510.50 crore till Monday, continued to buy heavily, while operators and investors also became active buyers, said a broker.
Better Wall Street advices also boosted the market sentiment to a large extent, another broker said and added the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 68.36 points to 10,371.80 and the Nasdaq Composite Index firmed up by 21.38 points to 2078.75.
Shares of Uniplay were listed on the BSE today at Rs 30.50 per shares versus the issue price of Rs 24.00 per share, said a broker.
During the early trading Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Reliance Energies Limited (REL), Tata Motors, Tata Consultancy Service (TCS), HDFC, Ranbaxy, Cipla, ONGC, Satyam, Infosys Tech, Maruti, Indian Tobacco Co-operation (ITC), Grasim, Larsen and Turbo (L&T), Tata Power, Tata Steel, ACC, Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL), Dr Reddy, GACL Hindal Co, (HLL) Hindustan Levers Limited, ICICI Bank and National Thermal Power Co-Operation (NTPC) were strong.
