BJP demands White Paper on petrol diesel prices
Friday, July 1 2005 12:13 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Stepping up its campaign, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) yesterday asked the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Government to come out with a White Paper on the petrol diesel prices.

"The White Paper should disclose the average price of hydrocarbon purchases. The details of domestic production, long term contracts, new acquired oil equity will explain the average price."

"We also seek explanation as to how the burden due to international price hike is shared between the Government, the companies and the consumer. The White Paper should also explain what is the Government subsidy", party spokesman Prakash Javadekar told reporters in New Delhi.

He said the Government could reduce the burden on consumers by adopting flexible duty structure, revenue neutralisation and maximum price band policy. It can also save on bringing efficiency in distribution, he added.
