Govt refers Anil Ambani's phone tapping case to CBI
Thursday, June 30 2005 19:36 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Government has referred the case of alleged tapping of phone of Anil Ambani, Chairman of ADA Enterprises, to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The issue was referred to the agency recently, official sources today (Jun 30, 2005) said, while clarifying no case has been registered by CBI as of now.

Spotlight: Battle of Ambanis

At the height of the battle for ownership of the Reliance empire, Anil Ambani, a Rajya Sabha MP, had sought a Government probe into tapping of his phones by 'unscrupulous individuals' working for Reliance Infocomm, at that time headed by elder brother Mukesh.

In this connection Anil had also met Home Minister Shivraj Patil and had written a letter as Vice Chairman of Reliance saying, that the mastermind of "This criminal operation I am led to believe by reliable sources" was a director of Reliance Infocomm, who was assisted by other officials of the company.

The move comes nearly two weeks after the settlement reached between the Ambani brothers under which Anil got Infocomm along with Reliance Energy and Reliance Capital while Mukesh retained flagship company Reliance Industries and IPCL.

The Government has recently taken steps to increase Anil's security in the wake of threatening calls being received by him.
