BSE: Sensex set new record high at 7178.04 points Friday, June 24 2005 15:35 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

The benchmark Sensex zoomed to set a new record at 7178.04 points at midway on revival of buying by major players and investment buying by general investors, placing most of the blue-chip stocks significantly higher.
Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty shot up to 2202.30 points, a level never seen before on all round buying.
The market commenced on a weak note as profit booking emerged at prevailing high levels but funds buying at low levels checked the fall in the Sensex and it gained 58.28 points at 7178.04. Nifty also notched up 18.45 points at 2202.30.
The major supporters to the market were Reliance Capital, Ranbaxy, Larsen and Toubro, Tata Consultancy, ONGC, ITC Ltd., Hero Honda and Hindalco.
