Security cover of Anil Ambani to be fortified
Thursday, June 23 2005 18:16 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The security cover of Anil Ambani is likely to be beefed up following reports that he was getting threatening calls.

Anil, who met Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil yesterday (Jun 22, 2005) at his residence, is understood to have discussed the issue with him, official sources said.

A Rajya Sabha member of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Anil had claimed that he had been receiving threatening calls and had earlier also demanded security cover.

He is also understood to have broadly explained him about the settlement reached at the Reliance Empire with his elder brother Mukesh.

Anil flew in from Mumbai yesterday and had a spate of meetings including with President A P J Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Finance Minister P Chidambaram.

Meanwhile, security agencies were asked to prepare a perception of threat to Anil Ambani and also seek a report from Mumbai police.

Anil had written to the Government earlier in which he had claimed he had been receiving threatening calls and requested for necessary action.

He already has a round-the-clock personal security officer with automatic weapon which falls in "X" category.
