Sensex spurts to historic peaks; ends at 7076.52
Tuesday, June 21 2005 17:06 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mumbai: Led by RIL and ONGC, the Sensex today (Jun 21, 2005) flared up by a whopping 92 points to end at historic peaks of 7076.52 as booming conditions continued unabated for the second straight session on sustained buying from investors with a fair amount of speculative play.

The benchmark soared to a fresh life-time high of 7083.58 during the course of business.

With today's hefty gains, the Sensex has risen by a massive 170 points or 2.46 per cent in two trading sessions.

Combination of factors such as smooth settlement to the vexed ownership issue in the Reliance group companies, arrival of the monsoon and resumption of FII inflows drove the Sensex to dizzy heights, brokers said.

The market breadth remained positive with advances outpacing laggards at the end of the day, portraying a bullish outlook for the near term, they added.

After a steady start at 6985.91, the Sensex later rallied smartly in response to unabated buying support and ended the day at 7076.52 as against yesterday's (Jun 20, 2005) close of 6984.50, a net rise of 91.97 points or 1.32 per cent.
