'Ambani brothers free to use Reliance name & logo'
Sunday, June 19 2005 13:24 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: There may have been many a differences between them but both Mukesh Ambani and his younger brother Anil are free to use the powerful corporate brand name 'Reliance and its logo' as part of the settlement between them over the ownership issues of over Rs 100,000 crore business empire.

"Both Mukesh and Anil companies' will use the Reliance Brand," senior RIL Director Y P Trivedi, who is heading the Board Committee on Corporate Governance, told sources in New Delhi.

Spotlight: Battle of Ambanis

There have been intense speculations about how the two entities, belonging to Mukesh and Anil each, would be structured and whether Anil would be allowed to use the logo and Reliance brand name.

Asked as to how the two separate entities could use the same brand and logo, Trivedi said, "It can be done. It has happened in India in other cases. It can be Reliance A or Reliance B."

Neither Anil Ambani nor his spokesperson could be contacted for comments on the ensuing structural changes as a result of the settlement or on whether his companies would use the Reliance Logo and Brand.

However, an executive in one of Anil's companies said by and large the same would be used with some minor distinction to show them as a separate entity.

This is a matter of detail and would be looked at in due course, he added.
