Sensex witnesses narrow movt in morning trade Friday, June 17 2005 11:12 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
The Sensex today (Jun 17, 2005) witnessed extremely narrow movements after a promising start and was quoted steady at 10:30 hrs (IST) on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on alternate bouts of buying and selling.
The BSE Benchmark 30-share Index opened moderately higher at 6913.07 as against yesterday's (Jun 16, 2005) close of 6900.41 and later moved in a small range of 6920.12 and 6885.54 before being quoted at 6900.68 at 10:30 hrs (IST).
Operators were seen squaring up positions in select key counters at the weekend, brokers said.
Meanwhile, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) reported net investments of Rs 392.70 crore on June 15.
Investors seemed to be cautious despite sustained FIIs inflows in the past few day, due largely to rising global oil prices, which jumped to $56.58 a barrel in New York yesterday, brokers added.
Heavyweights like SBI, Tata Power, Satyam Computer, ONGC, Infosys Tech, Hero Honda, HDFC, HDFC Bank, Grasim and Bajaj Auto were quoted moderately lower due to selling pressure.
However, Wipro, Tata Steel, TCS Ltd, L&T, ITC, ICICI Bank Hindalco and Dr Reddy's Lab showed marked gains on fresh buying support.
