Raman Roy quits Wipro's BPO; Kurien takes over

Bangalore: Raman Roy has quit as the Chief Executive of Wipro's BPO business, the Bangalore-based company has appointed T K Kurien in his place.

Roy, who was with New York Stock Exchange-listed Wipro for three years, indicated he is embarking on a new venture.

"My ten years learning experience in the industry and in raising capital, I believe it's a potent combination", Roy told sources in Bangalore. "I am considering option to have start-up or investing in a small venture". He asserted, "I am not retiring. I am not joining any company".

Kurien has been a key member of the Wipro BPO team driving the transaction processing business initiative.

Over the last seven years, Kurien has handled many successful assignments including launch of Systems Integration practice, culminating in the Pound Sterling 70 million systems integration order from a UK-based telecom service provider.

Kurien also had a successful stint as the CFO of Wipro GE Medical Systems Ltd, and as CEO of GE X Ray from October 1997 to January 2000.

Kurien said, "We hope to take Wipro BPO to the next level through a combination of tighter alignment with our vertical solutions, leveraging our pool of domain expertise and increased optimisation and standardisation of processes and technologies".

Vice Chairman of Wipro Vivek Paul said given his wide experience in technology and process optimisation and his excellent track record as a leader, Kurien has the right combination of experience and energy to sustain and leverage the company's position of leadership in BPO to broaden its offerings and further realise the emerging opportunities in this space.
