Air Deccan launches Re 1 ticket for 'common man'

New Delhi: Pushing competition to its limit, Air Deccan today (Jun 6, 2005) announced the launch of the lowest fare of rupee one per ticket plus taxes worth Rs 221 from tomorrow and also put in place a new concept in the Indian aviation scene to sell its tickets through petrol pumps of HPCL.

The one rupee limited offer tickets would be applicable on all sectors on which the airline operates its Airbus aircraft and continues till July 31, its chief Capt G R Gopinath told reporters in New Delhi.

The sectors on which the rupee one ticket would be applicable are - Delhi-Bangalore, Bangalore-Mumbai, Mumbai-Delhi, Delhi-Kolkata, Kolkata-Hyderabad-Kolkata, Kolkata-Chennai, Chennai-Mumbai, Mumbai-Coimbatore-Mumbai, Delhi-Guwahati-Delhi, and Delhi-Bagdogra-Delhi.

A total of 1,000 rupee one tickets would be released in 30 days and open for travel between tomorrow and July 31.

Gopinath also announced special reduced fares on the Delhi-Bangalore and Bangalore-Mumbai sectors, to be applicable till the July 6. The fares would be Rs 4,600 and Rs 2,600 respectively for these sectors plus Rs 221 worth of taxes.

The Air Deccan chief also announced a strategic tie-up with Hindustan Petroleum to sell tickets of the 'no frills' airline at HP retail outlets across the country.

The partnership would enable the low-cost carrier to expand its ticketing network to every nook and cranny of the country. Similar practice is in vogue in the US.

Announcing this in New Delhi, Air Deccan chief G R Gopinath also said the airline would be adding one Airbus A-320 and an ATR every month over the next six months.
