Left warn UPA against disinvestment in other PSU Thursday, June 2 2005 08:06 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Opposing the ten percent disinvestment in Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL), the Left parties yesterday (Jun 1, 2005) warned the Congress-led Government at the Centre against privatisation in any other public sector unit (PSU).
"We warn the Government. Enough is enough. Thus far and no farther," Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary A B Bardhan told a joint press conference with leaders of other Left parties including Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) and Forward Bloc.
He said though the Government says that the ten percent disinvestment in BHEL has not changed the character of the unit, this was a "creeping way" of carrying out privatisation of a profit-making public sector unit.
"This is a creeping way for privatisation", Bardhan said after a meeting of the Left parties, which discussed the issue while primarily concentrating on discussing the impending rise in petrol and diesel prices.
"We are opposed to the 10 percent dilution of Government stake in BHEL," he said.
